A CBD vape works in one of two ways: a prefilled cartridge screwed onto a 510 battery, or an e-liquid poured into a refillable electronic cigarette. The booster is used to raise the CBD content of an e-liquid. Here is how these parts fit together, how to look after them and what the law provides for them.

Two systems: cartridge or e-liquid
CBD vapes fall under the Tobacco Products Act, with or without nicotine, as our guide to using a CBD product points out. Within this framework, two systems coexist.
A cartridge is a small prefilled 1 ml tank, which in our range holds a liquid with 50% CBD. It screws onto a battery and is replaced once empty. An e-liquid is poured into the tank of a refillable electronic cigarette; ours contain 5% CBD and come in 10 ml, or 500 mg of CBD, and 30 ml, or 1,500 mg.
The choice mainly depends on the device. A cartridge only needs a compact battery and no refilling. An e-liquid requires an e-cigarette with a tank, but lets you choose its flavour and format.
The cartridge and its 510 battery
A cartridge consists of a mouthpiece, a tank, an atomiser that heats the liquid and a standard screw thread known as 510. It screws onto any battery with the same thread, such as our 900 mAh battery, which charges via a USB cable and works with a single button.
Using it is simple: screw the cartridge on without forcing until it touches the connector, then use it according to the battery’s instructions. Overtightening can damage the thread. Our Stonerstyle Amnesia cartridge comes in the same 1 ml format, with its own aroma profile.
The 510 thread is very common, but battery voltage and shape vary from one model to another. The combination intended by the seller remains the safest.

The e-liquid and the booster
An e-liquid is poured into the tank of a refillable electronic cigarette, up to the maximum level indicated. After refilling or changing the coil, letting the liquid soak into the wick for a few minutes avoids dry heating. Our Stonerstyle Amnesia e-liquid contains 5% CBD, with spicy, herbal and slightly lemony notes.
The 30% e-liquid booster meets a different need: keeping your usual e-liquid while adding CBD to it. It is a CBD isolate soluble in e-liquids, neutral in taste, to be mixed into a nicotine-free e-liquid. Its 30 ml bottle contains 9,000 mg of CBD, or 300 mg per millilitre.
The content of the mix is easy to work out: add up the CBD from each liquid and divide by the total volume. Ten millilitres of booster mixed with twenty millilitres of a CBD-free e-liquid give thirty millilitres at 100 mg per millilitre, or 10%.

Looking after your equipment
A vape needs little maintenance, but regularly. The contact of the 510 thread is cleaned with a dry cotton bud, battery switched off, to remove condensation that can interfere with the contact. Cartridges are stored upright, mouthpiece up, at room temperature; the heat of a car in summer or a windowsill does them no good.
The battery is charged with a suitable cable, on a non-flammable surface, and is not left charging unattended. It copes poorly with both heat and frost. Our article on storing CBD products compares these rules with those for other products.
What the law provides, from age 18 to used batteries
The Tobacco Products Act restricts CBD vapes to people aged 18 or over, in shops and online. The products are notified to the Federal Office of Public Health and come with a leaflet in three languages and an official warning. Our article on the Tobacco Products Act details these obligations.
A vape contains a battery, which gives it a second life as electronic waste. Every shop that sells batteries must take back used batteries free of charge, and electronic devices are taken back free of charge too, financed by an advance recycling fee. A vape battery therefore never goes in the bin.
Disposable vapes follow stricter rules. They pay tobacco tax, with or without nicotine, and their sale is banned in Geneva and Valais; a federal ban is being prepared. With a rechargeable battery, only the cartridge is replaced.

Point to watch
A cosmetic CBD oil is not vaped: it is formulated for the skin, in a vegetable oil that is not meant to be heated in an electronic cigarette. To vape CBD, you use products designed for it: cartridges, e-liquids, booster or distillate.
Distillate, a concentrate for concentrate devices, follows the same vaping logic: we present it in our article on CBD distillate. The whole range is on our CBD vapes page.
Our laboratory
Our e-liquids and cartridges are prepared in our laboratory in Gland, from extracts containing less than 1% total THC. Their cannabinoid levels are checked regularly by an external laboratory. Discover the laboratory →
Frequently asked questions
Is my battery compatible with all cartridges?
A battery with a 510 thread accepts most 510 cartridges. Voltage and shape do vary from model to model, though: the combination intended by the seller remains the safest. Our 900 mAh battery is designed for 1 ml cartridges.
How much CBD does a 10 ml e-liquid at 5% contain?
500 mg. The percentage is expressed as mass per volume: 5% equals 50 mg of CBD per millilitre, or 500 mg in 10 ml and 1,500 mg in 30 ml.
Which e-liquid should the CBD booster be used with?
The booster is mixed into a nicotine-free e-liquid. Neutral in taste, it keeps the flavour of the original liquid. The final content is worked out by adding up the CBD from each liquid and dividing by the total volume.
Where can I take a used vape battery?
To any shop that sells batteries, which must take it back free of charge. Electronic devices are also taken back free of charge by shops that sell them. A battery never goes in household waste.
Are disposable CBD vapes allowed in Switzerland?
There is no federal ban as of 1 October 2026, but Geneva and Valais already ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes. With or without nicotine, disposables are subject to tobacco tax.
