With the CBD craze in full swing, there is still a lot of confusion out there. So what is CBD oil, and is it the same as “hemp oil”? No, they are actually completely different things. One of them is mainly used in cooking and making beauty products, while the other is a product that has its own advantages. Both are made from hemp plants, so sometimes it’s hard to tell which is which. Hemp seed oil and CBD oil can be found at your local pharmacy, grocery store, and health food stores. However, most of the time you will find that they are usually sold in different places. The most reputable CBD oil brands can be purchased online directly from their website. Many pharmacies, and even convenience stores these days, have started carrying some of the more legitimate brands of CBD oil. A few years ago, this was not the case.

Mark of provenance

Hemp seed oil can always be found at your local grocery store, beauty store, and online stores like Amazon. They are sometimes marketed as hemp oil, but the ingredients will need to state “hemp seed oil”. If you’re looking to take CBD oil for medicinal purposes, hemp seed oil won’t provide the same benefits – although it does happen to be a very good source of protein and essential fatty acids ( omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9).

Uses and purposes

Since hemp oil and CBD oil are not the same thing, their applications differ greatly. Hemp seed oil is commonly found in beauty products for hair and skin care, or used for cooking and salads. CBD oil, on the other hand, generally refers to a variety containing CBD, which is taken sublingually by putting drops under the tongue. CBD oil is also the main component of many CBD-rich products like edibles, topicals, and other cannabidiol infused products. As a reminder, when people say they are “vaping CBD oil,” they are vaping e-juice that contains some type of CBD concentrate or extract. Most of the time, it will be made from CBD isolate, a highly concentrated crystallized form of CBD that happens to be water soluble. Other vapes may contain some form of distillate or concentrate of CBD. CBD oil derivatives, on the other hand, use an oil-based carrier, which makes them unsuitable for vaping.

Different labeling

In order to fully understand the difference between hemp seed oil and CBD oil, we also need to understand what they have in common. Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are products derived from hemp. Both may even have a hemp leaf on the wrapper. They can be both organic, non-GMO, vegan, etc. Sometimes you can even find them in the same place. But be careful, do your research and always read the labels. It’s too easy to mix the two up and it’s unfortunate that some companies have resorted to misrepresenting their products in an effort to increase their profits. To sum up, hemp oil, or better known as hemp seed oil, is not the same as CBD oil. It comes from the seeds of the hemp plant and does not contain significant levels of CBD!

Currency value

CBD oil is much more expensive to produce than hemp seed oil. For this reason alone, it will cost you more. If a product claims to be made with premium CBD oil, it probably won’t come cheap. And if so, you probably need to verify its legitimacy.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, some hemp seed oil products may be marketed as hemp products. Technically, they still are, even though they don’t contain CBD. Just because a product has a hemp leaf on it doesn’t packaging or logo that it is necessarily a CBD product. Although the price can sometimes be a good indication, never judge a book by its cover.
